Maybe that’s also why there’s a palate cleansing silence before “Happy Holidays Y’all”?</p> <p class="p4"><strong>REK responds:</strong><em> </em></p> <p class="p5"><em>I wanted to make a record that was connected all the way from beginning to end. The best I could do was the “Road to No Return” which encompasses the songs you mention. The inspiration came from historically documented westward pioneers that moved through the Southwest. No one in particular. And the protagonist does take a serious left turn in “New Life in Old Mexico”. The words were chosen by the way they sound. The story is very loose, but in general, it is a song about loss and the feeling of being absolutely alone. As you know, this is the 20th anniversary of when The Road Goes on Forever was penned, and in addition to the book (out now), the documentary (coming soon), the contest for my fans to submit photos and stories (going on now), we now have a pretty cool guitar for sale. It is an Epiphone Special II and has to official Road Goes On Forever emblem on it. It's pretty slick. Man, have we been busy. I think we've seen more cities in the last few months than most bands see in a year. I have to tell you, the crowds have been great. Thanks so much to all of you for coming out. We truly appreciate it. <p>So, what's new? Well, The Rose Hotel continues to do well and again, thanks to all of you who have bought it. We had a blast making it and to know you liked it makes us happier than mule's eating green apples. We've added a ton of new tour dates, so check those out. We also have some new merchandise out, so if you're feeling like a new T, check em out.</p> <p>I need your help with something. We are thinking about selling tickets from my site. These would be tickets that are the best in the venue. It would be first come, first serve and when they are all gone, they are all gone. Ok, how about this. We have a new album coming out (drum roll please)…….this Fall. We’ve been working hard on it and it’s shaping up to be quite a gem. One cool thing about the new album is the entire band is featured…which if you know my band, it has to be good. We also have some guest vocals from Billy Bob Thorton and my good friend and fellow songwriter Greg Brown. The album is produced by Lloyd Maines (can I get a Hell Yeah!!). If you don’t know Lloyd, the man is a country music stud both as a legendary steel guitarist and producer. Stay tuned to the site as we will keep you up to date as much as we can on its release.<br /> <br /> Other cool stuff happening: we have a new book out, check that out when you get time. Wanted to start by saying “thanks” to all of you who have sent in comments about the new site. We appreciate your kind words. Heck, we did it for you, so to know you like it makes us feel good. Wanted to also give you an update on what is happening in my crazy world. So, here goes…<br /> <br /> We’ve added a bunch of new tour dates for November and December, so if you get a chance, come out and see us. We’ll be in LA, SC, AL, DC, MD, PA, VA, AR, TN, MS and TX (damn, the road really does go on forever) throughout November and December. Should be some good times.<br /> <br /> In January, a tribute album to Robert Earl Keen (yea, that’s me) will be coming out. My good friends including Bonnie Bishop, Jason Boland, Wade Bowen, Cody Canada, Chris Knight, Cory Morrow, Randy Rogers Band and Reckless Kelly, among others, all have cuts. I am truly honored and excited about the whole thing.
