this is crossing threads a little, but I just watched "Bye Bye Birdie" for the first time last night on TCM as part of their "rock and roll" movie night...... turns out that the guy that played Conrad Birdie was none other than Jesse Pearson, probably better known to Andy Griffith show fans as Keevy Hazelton, the tv/pop star who sang Aunt Bee's song "My Hometown".....

Wow...I didn't know he was on Andy Griffith! I saw "Bye Bye Birdie" with my parents on Broadway in probably 1962 or so. At 13 it was the most wonderful thing I had ever seen, and the movie was a little disappointing. Dick Van Dyke was in the play, too.....and that, was before his TV show, and he was pretty much an unknown. Paul Lynde was also in it, and Chita Rivera played Janet Leight's role. Oh...and Michael J. Pollard. Imagine my surprise when he turned up years later in "Bonnie and Clyde"!

yep, Conrad Birdie was Keevy Hazelton, the singer that Aunt Bee got to sing her song "My Hometown" on his TV show.... Michael J. Pollard is another TAGS alumnus, having played Barney's "Cousin Virgil"....

btw, he's terrible at "lip synching" and fake guitarring....
